Omega Olympic Rattrapante: The Pinnacle of Sports Timing

  • The Heritage: Own a piece of the games. This rare 1960s-era split-seconds pocket watch represents Omega’s long-standing legacy as the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games. Designed for high-precision sports timing, these models were essential tools before the digital revolution.
  • The Complication: Featuring a Rattrapante (split-seconds) mechanism, this watch allows for the timing of two separate events simultaneously using its two independent chronograph hands.
  • Mechanical Soul: At its heart lies the legendary Calibre 1131 (or 1130), a high-grade manual-wind movement known for its 21 jewels and exceptional accuracy.
  • Design: Housed in a robust 65mm chrome-finished case, the white enamel dial features striking red Omega branding and blued steel hands for maximum legibility under pressure.
  • Overview: A massive, 65mm statement of Swiss engineering. This Omega split-seconds pocket watch is a high-speed mechanical masterpiece, often featuring a 36,000 A/h oscillator for 1/10th of a second precision.
  • Technical Highlights:
    • Calibre: Omega 1131 manual-wind movement.
    • Functions: Hours, minutes, subsidiary seconds, and a 30-minute split-seconds chronograph.
    • Condition: Vintage excellence with a crisp enamel dial and original “Olympic” detailing.
  • Why It Matters: These rare “Olympic” editions are increasingly sought after by collectors of both sports memorabilia and high-end horology.
  • The Story: In 1932, Omega became the first company to time an entire Olympic Games with just 30 stopwatches. This piece is a direct descendant of that innovation, crafted during the 1950s and 60s when mechanical timing reached its zenith.
  • Visual Appeal: The dial is a work of art, utilizing a specialized enamel process that is a rarity today. It features a recessed 30-minute totalizer and the iconic five-ring Olympic heritage.
  • A Collector’s Asset: With high-grade components that often include a swan-neck regulator and Breguet balance spring, this is more than a watch—it is a functional investment in Swiss craftsmanship.
  • Brand: Omega
  • Era: Circa 1950s–1960s
  • Case Diameter: Approx. 65mm
  • Movement: Calibre 1131 / 1130 (Manual)

Condition Report

Case : Good condition with light scratches all round. some small silver coating peel off at 2:30 position on the side of the case.

Hands : Good condition with some tiny small aging marks shown on surface

Dial : Good original condition with some tiny small aging marks shown on surface

Remarks

This model is rarer than the one featuring with a red plastic case made in the later era for Olympic games. A lot of these were often seen on poor condition as they were actually being used for Olympic Games back in the days. To me, this lasrge size (65mm) case pocket split seconds (Rattrapante) chronograph is a piece of good Omega history and being very collectable.
